Landscape Maintenance Team Leader
Position Overview
The landscape maintenance team leader manages the horticultural requirements of a predetermined route of clients. The team leader supervises one to three employees and may be called upon to provide specific horticultural information to assist other team leaders or management. The team leader is capable of operating a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices, woody and perennial plants, cultural requirements, best practices, and pest management. Also, the team leader should possess a basic understanding of the maintenance requirements of all landscape and hardscape elements installed by Rine, including a basic understanding of irrigation principles.
Responsibilities
Plans and organizes the day's route, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available, and completes it in the most time-efficient manner.
Performs a wide variety of horticultural tasks to ensure an attractive landscape and an optimal level of plant health, including weed control, certain perennial cultural practices, pruning, pest treatments, mowing, trimming, edging and other routine lawn-care activities.
Ensures that multiple tasks at each client are organized and completed on a priority basis and within the parameters established for the account. Considers improvements to accounts and makes recommendations to management.
Diagnoses pest issues, makes recommendations, and/or takes remedial action as directed by standard company policy or management. Diagnoses other site problems and makes recommendations for their improvement.
May repair, replace, and/or clean brick pavers; replace dead or damaged plant material, noting probable cause of decline; repair or replace low-voltage lighting; service garden ponds; perform minor repairs on irrigation.
Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to rototiller, sod cutter, string trimmer, mower, plant auger, chain saw, power shear, backpack blower.
Operates non-CDL automatic transmission vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
Completes the necessary paperwork, including time sheets, work orders, and client tickets.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
Manages a team of one or more employees, including handling personnel issues onsite and training employees on policies and procedures.
Interacts with clients routinely answering questions and assuring client satisfaction. Communicates clients concerns to management.
Applies chemicals under the direction of licensed commercial applicator.
Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic/management of needed repairs.
Helps with snow removal during the winter months.
Experience and Qualifications
This position requires a high school degree or GED. A two or four year degree in a horticultural related discipline is preferred but not required. A minimum of 2 years landscape maintenance team leader experience is required without degree.
Candidate must be able to read and write.
The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices, including but not limited to planting, pruning, corrective pruning, weed ID/control, plant pest ID/control, fertilization.
The candidate will have a working knowledge of hardscaping practices including paver, pond, low-voltage lighting, and irrigation troubleshooting.
Strong oral communication skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must.
Ability to operate a truck and trailer combination proficiently.
Valid Ohio drivers license with a clean record. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
Certifications
This position requires that the individual become certified within one year of employment as follows:
Ohio Nursery & Landscaping Association Certification (OCNT); or PLANET Landscape Industry Certified
Pesticide certification
Ohio Driver's License and insurable with company's agent
First aid / cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
